Artoony tracked us down a few weeks ago via our MySpace page and is living proof that - assuming you are any good, of course - that befriending us really can get you a feature.
As our 'featured artist' this month (for want of a better term), we really thought Artoony's surreal imagery fitted our warped view of the world perfectly! For more on Artoony, track her down here.
How are you? Oh I feel great right now so much cool stuff going on in my life.
If you were talking to a stranger, how would you describe yourself in just three words: Determined, colourful and imaginative.
What’s the best thing about creating your artwork? It is fun - every day is a new adventure in an imaginary world.
Do you plan the surreal stuff beforehand, or does it just 'happen'? Most of the time the ideas just pop up in my head but sometimes I have to think about it for days before I come up with something I like. Right now I have ideas for months of work in my head. Clearly nudity isn’t an issue, but do you censor your work in any way? Any personal guidelines? Even it might be tempting I try to avoid anything to political or religious. I just don't want to get involved in endless arguments with people who are too easily offended.
Biggest influences? Fairly obvious! Dali, Magritte and Roy Lichtenstein.
On the other hand, who are the worst people / person on the planet? Oh, a whole bunch of "leaders" around the world - with Bush in top place. But with some religious fanatics a close second. How has the Internet helped showcase your work? Or has it had a negative effect? The internet is very important for artists like me and I try to make most of the networking if offers.
Are there any hidden messages / personal messages hidden amongst your work, or is it simply "what you see is what you get"? There's no deliberate hidden message, it's more a case of letting people read into it what they will. I have some ideas when I create it of course, but it's interesting to see what others get from my work too...
Do you find that pop art is looked down upon as an art form by some people? Yes, but you can't really reach everybody and I think I appeal to people who might find "serious" art too stuffy.
What’s the greatest country on the planet? In my mind no country is the greatest on the planet. Each country and culture is unique and should be respected. I see myself very much as European. I was born in Norway, lived for years in Germany and now in the UK but I also spend time in France.
Alcoholic tipple of choice? French red wine - lots of it!!!
Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out? Because my artwork is fun!
And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you? Well to me as a non-English person it sounds like something to do with loudspeakers, and quite shocking! |
