The Cemetery Boys The Cemetery Boys

Anyone who caught the review in last months Voltcase knows that we like The Cemetery Boys - a lot. And, after being sent a copy of the whole album, we've taken the next logical step and given them a whole damn feature!

As a little addition to the review last month, I should point out as well that there is more to the album than just spooky theme music - although the spooky theme music is still great!

To check out The Cemetery Boys, track them down here.

How are you?
Very well! We're honored to be in your 'zine. We've loved the UK since reading the Sherlock Holmes series as small boys. If we didn't live in the US, we would definitely live in the UK. As a matter of fact, my inner voice has a British accent!

If you were talking to a stranger, how would you describe yourself in just three words:
Warm, cuddly fuzzball.

Whats the best thing about being The Cemetery Boys?
Not being the Bronski Beat! Just kidding. The best thing is retaining our anonimity while losing our integrity.

Was 'Recorded in a Real Tomb!' actually recorded in a real tomb?
It was! Next, we're hoping to release a recording of the recording of "Recorded In A Real Tomb!" We may be the first band to have recorded live music in a tomb. There's talk that next year the Grammys will have a new category "Best Album Recorded In A Tomb". We hear Sting is recording his next album in a tomb just to fuck us up.

If you could reanimate one dead person and bring them back as a zombie, who would it be?
Elvis. So he could spank Lisa Marie for marrying Michael Jackson.

Who (or what) are the biggest influences on The Cemetery Boys?
Well, obviously horror movies. Old black-and-white horror movies. Universal Monsters (Frankenstein, Dracula, Wolfman, etc.) Hammer movies, the Munsters and Dark Shadows TV shows, horror hosts from the '50s, '60s and '70s, Elvira, Edgar Allan Poe.
Musically, pre-1980 Kiss, Black Sabbath, Chameleons UK, Elvis. Music from the 1950s. Some '50s music is kind of creepy and there's nothing scarier than Elvis!

On the other hand, who are the worst people / person on the planet?
The worst people are those who want to kill everyone who doesn't believe in their religeon. And people who are cruel to animals. Animal cruelty is a sore spot for the Cemetery Boys. We aren't nice to people who are mean to animals.

This whole 'being spooky' thing - is it just an image, or an actual lifestyle choice?
We live it. We walk the walk, we talk the - oh OK, it's an image. We are milquetoast in masks! Actually, we're both very much into the spooky thing. We can't help it!

Whats the spookiest thing to happen to The Cemetery Boys?
The pictures we took while recording "Recorded In A Real Tomb!" all came back as the same nude photo of Alfred Hitchcock. Horrifying.

Lugosi was the greatest Dracula of all time - agree or disagree?
That's a tough one. With Christopher Lee running a close second, Lugosi was the greatest Dracula.

Any plans on becoming a three / four piece band, or is being a two piece just the way you want it?
We're gonna stay a two-piece. It puts us in a different catagory from most other bands. And more importantly, we only have to split the money two ways! Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

Why the balaclavas?
We were told that our striking good looks were distracting the importance of the music. We realized our handsomeness was equal to the importance of the music. It was then we decided to wear masks.

Alcoholic tipple of choice?
Jagermeister, Budweiser.

Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out?
The lazy general public is tired of seeing bands bore the paint off the walls with their rockstar posing, stupid haircuts, trendy clothes and bloated egos. Our show is like being dropped off in a graveyard alone in the middle of the night for 45 minutes. We try to create a creepy cemetery atmosphere whereever we are. Audiovisually, never a dull moment. When you leave, you say "What the hell was THAT?"

And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you?
We get several visuals with the word 'Voltcase'.
One is that thing they used to raise Frankenstein's monster to the roof to receive his "electrofication". Also, anytime we here the word 'case' used, it reminds us of beer. A case of Volt beer. Is there a Volt beer? Maybe we should make one. But really, we all know 'Voltcase' is latin for "kickass webzine". Thank you Voltcase. Y'all are the best!
