LanguageLanguage play 'Songs to fcuk2', apparently - check em out here!
So, how would you describe your sound to a stranger in three words?
V: I love you
H: Songs to fuck2
What could you say to convince the lazy general public that they should check you out, turn up at your gigs and buy your music?
V: I actually think the public are too flippant and fast with their music and tastes, if anything we will have to work hard to keep their attention and shout louder than the rest to get it.
What do you guys think of the Internet as a way of promoting yourselves – is it an essential marketing tool, or just another way for people to steal your music without you knowing about it?
We’re reaching a point where your music is always going to be stolen no matter what you do. If having it stolen means more people will hear it then so be it, I believe if you like it enough you’ll buy the good stuff. Myspace has always been good to us and cheaper than having a site and they do try their best at preventing thievery.
We try and promote as many local scenes as we can here at Voltcase, what can you tell us about your home town/s and the music scene there? Any bands that we might not have heard of that you think we should check out?
Vic and Marc are from London but Vic recommends Mucky Sailor from Leeds, best live act he’s seen all year, watching them is like being in a David Lynch film about sweaty sailors and Lionel Ritchie. Hugo is from Tenerife, there really isn’t such thing as a musical scene in the Canaries; nice beaches though.
And, for anyone out there just starting out in a band, is there one piece of invaluable advice that you could give them to help them on their way?
It’s a marathon. Stick to your guns don’t let anyone else tell you how it’s done.
So, what's the most extreme rock-star type story that's happened to you while on tour or at a gig?
V: ‘What goes on tour, stays on tour’.
H: One way or the other, the most interesting stories seem to find their way to our songs. This is why we’ve decided to include the lyrics with our releases, which is something not many bands do these days. Take our upcoming single MACADAMiA for instance and the line: “I’m standing naked in hysterics screaming beer in Japanese…” We have a song called “Theme For a Porno”
If you were interviewing yourself, what question would you ask yourself? And what would the answer be?
Q: Your Myspace site mentions a history associated with porn, care to explain?
A: Well yes. Language has funded itself by providing the soundtracks for porn series ‘Indie boyz’ under the alias The Fandango Boyz. We actually have great fun producing these as we don’t have to worry about each track being Language-worthy.
So, what have you got planned for the rest of the year?
We are releasing our debut single ‘Macadamia / We Are Here’ through Little Power Records on September 29th. We will play a few gigs to support this but our focus is finishing the album.
And finally, the question that we ask everyone that appears in Voltcase - what does the word 'Voltcase' mean?
Our bassist is called Vic Volts, he is sometimes referred to as The Volts due to Hugo’s love of The Edge. When he saw it he naturally thought in his self absorbed manner that it was about him. Perhaps Vic will take this name for himself. |
