The Indigo Road featuring Heidi Jo HinesReviewed: "Simple / Goodbye to you" Double A Side CDIndie jangle rock from new London based band.
This double a-side has two quite contrasting songs, both of which show glimpses of promise and potential.
The first track, "Simple", an acoustic low-key number with some funky Spanish sounding guitar bits going on best reflects the vocal abilities of guest vocalist Heidi Jo Hines (who, incidentally, and according to the press release, is the "daughter of former Wings guitarist Denny Laine" - nothing like a bit of name-dropping!). A pleasant, if not entirely ground moving little track, although, in my humble opinion, more of an album track than a single (in the traditional pre-downloading days of album tracks).
Track two, "Goodbye To You", is a more rockier upbeat number with some 90's alt rock guitar sounds and a slice of Seattle style angst, and is the more immediate and memorable of the two tracks. Bizarrely, the one thing it suffers from a little is having vocals that are actually too good (technically) for the music - the odd warble or raspy back of the throat scream might have added a bit more of a human touch to the track.
Overall? A grower, and, assuming the Indigo Road can continue to find vocalists of this caliber, they have a bright future ahead of themselves.
