The Prime Movers

Reviewed: "No Tomorrows" MP3

The Prime Movers play quirky student-like indie rock. The whole thing is very 'cheap' sounding, which could either be down to it being done on or budget, or because that's the cool thing to do nowadays.

The song has no real chorus or hooks as such, just plods along nicely for a few minutes with a loud Pixies style bass line and Johnny Marr-ish guitar riffs. Although what the drums are doing throughout all this I'm not sure - either they're very low in the mix or they're just not being hit, just the odd high hat noise here and there. Id imagine (or at least hope) that the drums are much more to the forefront when the band play live.

Besides the obvious StrokesSmithsNME type influences, the whole track reminds me of one of those Mick Jones songs from the second half of London Calling - 'Lovers Rock' or something.

Overall? Cool & quirky, worth a download if your looking for something a bit different.

The Best Bit: Loud bass.
The Worst Bit: Drums?
