Property Is Theft
Reviewed: "Blueprints For Broken Wings"I really hate lazy journalism. But, there’s no real way of skirting around the obvious sometimes, so let’s just cut to the chase here.
Wiltshire’s Property Is Theft are very heavily influenced by Muse. Right, now that’s out of the way, we can move on. This seven track ep brings together all of PIT’s recorded output over the last year or so and kicks off with the marvellous “Nausea”, perhaps the most commercial track on the cd, Full of fast paced intricate staccato guitar work linked into an excellent swooning chorus that just can’t fail to impress. “You Are Going To Lose” is up next, a track that lulls you in with a softly softly approach before ripping your ears apart with some brutal instrumentation. Again, there’s more karaoke glory for the listener in the chorus, should they want to join in!
Track 4 is a highlight also, “Let Me Out” has a fist pumping “who really cares? ANYMORE!” refrain that will no doubt prove popular with the kids and ends with some really heavy riffing and is sure to be a live favourite very soon, that is when the band get out there and do some more bloody gigs!!!
And then “In This Dark Room” comes in. With a piano arpeggio, no less. Everything else from herein was recorded by a different engineer at a different studio. By the band’s own admission, this was to generate more of a live sound. Where as it doesn’t carry the obvious sheen of the previous tracks, there’s still enough going on here to be excited about. The cd’s title track is perhaps the best of the three remaining songs, with some manic axe trickery culminating in a furious finale.
There’s no doubt in my mind when you come across bands that are musically competent as Property Is Theft that they should go and record their songs in an environment so that you can get the most out of them. With songs as good as these, it’s a damned necessity. Go check this out and soon.
