Pure Red Iguanas

Reviewed: 3 MP3s: "Time's on Hold", "I Should Have Known" & "Some Other Day"

First of all, there is a reason why bands like the Thrills release their albums and singles in the spring & summer - because they sound at their best blasted over fields of sweaty festival goers reveling in the British summertime.

And at the other end of the scale, I really cant see them ever trying to go for the Christmas number one slot. And the same applies to Pure Red Iguanas.

I'm going to try my best to review their music, despite the fact that I'm sitting in Wales, in the middle of October, freezing cold with the rain chucking it down outside. What is surprising, though, is the fact that the Pure Red Iguanas come from Glasgow which, by all accounts, has more rain and bad weather than even Wales does, so where they find the time to be so happy and sunny is beyond me...

Anyway, the music itself. The Pure Red Iguanas play an excellent mix of Beach Boys style summer melodies (but in a good way, not in a McFly way..) and 60's-like retro fiddly guitars. Or another way of putting it - Oasis without the cigarettes and Alcohol.

The stand out song is "Some Other Day" - an infectious summer anthem, where the vocals sound like a more tuneful Tim Wheeler and the guitars really get a chance to shine through.

Each track is so overly happy and positive that you really cant help but like the Pure Red Iguanas - but, to do their music real justice, I'm going to going to have to re-read this review and listen to them again next summer. By which time they'll hopefully have a load of new songs for me to listen to!

The Best Bit: Some great melodies.
The Worst Bit: Too seasonal!
