12 Years Coming

Well, it doesn't take a genius to work out what kind of music 12 Years Coming play - just take a look at the pic over there. Yep, its good old fashioned no frills 1980's cock rock schlock (yep, as in Guns N Roses) with a slightly modern twist (yep again, as in Velvet Revolver). The kind of music that we all thought had been killed off by grunge in the early nineties but seems to be rearing its ugly head all over the place at the moment.

So is it any good? If you like that kind of thing, yes. Its upbeat, sleazy and enthusiastic, and un-PC enough to get any self respecting woman to throw themselves under a horse. Its not big and its not clever - just tried and tested good old fashioned rock n roll.

The kind of music that's dreaming of big stadiums but currently being played in whisky stained bars. And I would imagine that to fully appreciate 12 Years Coming you would need to check out a live gig - this music is made to rock to, not to sit at home drinking coffee to.

But the bottom line is that it sounds like a band trying their damndest to sound like Guns N Roses - a bit like the real Guns N Roses at the moment! The ability, songwriting and musicianship is there, but 12 Years Coming just need that spark of originality to stop them from sounding like a cover band.

Overall? If you're stuck in the 80's and like the sleazy stuff, definitely check em out. If your looking for something new, however, try again in a few years.
