Denatured
Reviewed: "Sleaze Country" CD
Feisty, shouty, hybrid metal from darkest Wales!
Ah, its been too long since I had a Welsh band to review in these pages - it was only four or five years ago when the ONLY bands I wrote about were Welsh - how the times have changed! And Denatured have the prestigious honour of being the first band to appear in Voltcase with any connections to the mighty 70's inspired sea side resort that is Porthcawl - bring on the Elvis festival!
So, Denatured then - despite the cliched artwork and the need to force unnecessary curse words into their music, this is a very accomplished CD of seven balls out classic / modern hybrid rock n roll tunes.
With riffs that alternate from out and out stoner rock, stadium destroying Iron Maiden-esque widdle's and speed rock bursts that would make even Lemmy proud, Denatured have got a great deal to offer even the most casual of rock fans, and piss all over most of the Kerrang approved bands that are being forced upon the impressionable youth at this moment in time.
And that's the beauty of Denatured's music - there are elements of a lot of great bands and genres on this CD, but mixed together in such a way to make it sound fresh and exciting.
All of which, I suppose, is a very 'Welsh' thing to do - The Lost 'Lets pretend to be American and get stupid haircuts' Prophets, Bullet for My Valentine and Funeral for a Friend have all done very well for themselves by reinventing stale genres, and who knows, maybe in a couple of years we'll be able to add Denatured to that list as well.
