DoliumReviewed: "El Vampiro Attack" EPY'know, based on the EP name and cover artwork alone, I was really hoping Dolium would be amazing. And, rather than being amazing, they're more just pretty good. Or, to quote Larry David, prettay, prettay, prettay, prettay good. A two piece band from Manchester, Dolium have produced an EP of goth tainted indie rock anthems with some nice, quirky, student like bits, and lots of repetitive memorable bits. All of which are played with the enthusiasm and energy of the unemployed on giro day. In a similar way to other NME-friendly bands like the Automatic, Dolium latch onto any old odd sounding hooks and riffs and repeat them and repeat them and repeat them until they're wedged firmly into the listeners unsuspecting cranium. Overall? Like a less experimental Steve Albini side project, Dolium have some nice tunes, some nice noise and some nice ideas. Pretty good. Prettay, prettay, prettay, prettay good. |
