The Dunes
Reviewed: "The Dunes" (Download/CD)
The Dunes play very cool sounding not-too-slow stoner rock. Sabbath-ie riffs and grungie vocals about 'being on fire' and stuff.
All three tracks are full of some excellent riffs, which, whilst not being entirely new, plod along in a rocking kind of a way. And the drums do a good job of keeping the whole thing together, without breaking out into a solo or anything.
The recording sounds a bit 'fartie' (sorry, no other way of describing it!) in places, but if anything this makes the whole thing sound a bit cooler, in a blow-your-speakers fuzzie kind of a way.
Music aside, the CD has some an excellent cover & supporting artwork - eye catching before its even been played!
In conclusion? A bit samey, but has lots of nice touches & well worth a download - especially as its free! And, going by the three songs here, The Dunes should put on an amazing live performance!
The Best Bit: "Feed the Wheel" The Worst Bit: Couldnt resist using the word 'Doom' in a song title...!
