Elijah Grew

Reviewed: "Pay What You Can" CD

Elijah Grew play nice little Dylan-esque indie guitar music. The whole CD is acoustic and live sounding (in fact, it wouldn't surprise if the CD was recorded live), which makes a nice change.

Clever, tunefull & timeless, its difficult not to like Elijah Grew.

There are some cool little touches scattered throughout the songs, like the harmonica, which just goes to show that a little bit of thought can add a lot to a song.

The best part of the CD is the lyrics, which are very prominent throughout. Almost drowning out the riffs, its the voice that carries the tracks and adds the more memorable parts to the songs.

Unfortunately, there isn't a single immediate stand out song on the CD that separates itself from the rest - the four tracks just seem to blend into one long one, almost like a CD of album tracks. Which makes it very difficult to choose a favourite song, but if I had to, then "Flowers In The Rain" has a darker edge than the rest which seems to suit Elijah Grew style pretty well.

Overall? Worth keeping an eye on.

The Best Bit: Lyrics
The Worst Bit: A CD of album tracks
