Genghis KhanReviewed: MP3'sWell?: Genghis Khan is a great example of why you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Based on website appearances alone, I really thought this was going to be some brutal over the top noise fest ala Mr Patton at his uncommercial best.
Instead, its well constructed, atmospheric, and foot tapingly tuneful whilst still harboring an underlying nastiness just bubbling underneath. A bit like Norman Bates - all nice and well dressed, but you just know he's going to cut someone up in the shower at some point.
Genghis originally brought himself to our attentions via the new horror flick 'Barricade' but, even without knowing that, the music really is film soundtrack type stuff. The eerie 'Haunted Memoriez' (which I'm assuming was written specifically for a soundtrack) is a great little mood setting number which tails off into Genghis's more standard drum sound.
A special point should be made of the samples scattered throughout the songs as well,, especially the great use of the Nightbreed samples. I'm not going to try and describe them, just get your lazy asses over to his MySpace page and listen to them yourself!
Atmospheric, rhythmic and, most importantly, unique. Check it out.
