Guile

Reviewed: Serendipity

Apparently, Guile have been compared to Sonic Youth, PIL, Whipping Boy and a bunch of other bands that they sound nothing like - maybe these refer to their live gigs or something, because on CD they couldnt be any further from the afore mentioned bands. Which is a shame.

The two tracks from Guile's Serendipity CD are alright but, well, thats about it - alright. Jangly indie pop that sounds like a lot of other stuff thats been popping up since the whole Britpop thingie divided the lines between mainstream and underground music 15 years ago.

Not that its bad or anything - far from it. It just doesnt inspire repeat listenings. A bit like modern day Oasis B-Sides. Which pretty much sums up the two tracks here - perfectly good B-Sides, but missing any kind of spark that could convert them into A-sides.

One to watch for the future rather than the here and now.

Overall? Worth a download and a listen.
