Hanoi RocksReviewed: Street PoetryI don't think I'm being unfair when I say that my expectations for a 2007 Hanoi Rocks album were, well, pretty low.
Which just goes to show that you shouldn't knock it until you've tried it, really, as Finish glam metallers Hanoi Rocks have produced an album so full of good time rock n roll that it defies their reputation and, dare I say it, age, and puts a lot of the modern day pretenders to shame.
Packed with speed, enthusiasm, and fist-in-the-air choruses, its hard not to listen to without a smile on your face and a tap in your foot. Very reminiscent of more recent Hellacopters records, with the standard 80's Motley Crue-isms thrown in for good measure, this is party music for party people, with some excellent upbeat rock tracks like the opening song 'Hypermobile' and 'Powertrip'.
Of course, that's not to say its all magnificent - there's still the odd over indulgent widdle here and there, along with some slightly cringe-worthy lyrics, but really, that's always added to, rather than detracted, from the charm of European rock.
Overall? Fans will not be disappointed, and it goes a long way to converting non believers (myself included!) as well!
