AzlanaFantasy / Gothic / Metal glamour model Azlana describes herself as 'Dark, Sexy, & Intelligent' and who are we to argue?
Our second (and slightly delayed) VoltGirl for July is the aforementioned sword wielding sorceress Azlana - and we couldn't be happier to having her joining us here at Voltcase.
As per usual, check out the interview & great pics below and, if you still want more (and I'm sure you do...) you can check out Azlana at here website here.
Hello! How are you? Hello! I'm very well, thank you.
If you were talking to a stranger, how would you describe yourself in three words: Dark, Sexy, Intelligent
So, what’s this "Dark Angels" thing all about then? Dark Angels started as a collaboration of extremely talented fantasy/sci-fi/horror artists and their muses, created not only to showcase the work of the artists, but the models as well. However, over the past year, Dark Angels has begun to expand it's vision, and now has a production company, a novel being written by award-winning sci-fi author Gary Babb based on the Dark Angels cast, and plans for a comic book and a clothing line due out by 2009! The artists involved at this point are William Nick Johns, Billy Tackett, Kelly Smith, Daniel Horne, and Todd Lockwood. They are some of the best in the biz! I and the other models, Jessica, Carey, and Leviathan, all feel extremely lucky to be working with them. It really is a wonderful thing to know that you, as a model, can inspire these artists to create such beautiful, strong images.
It looks like you get to go to some of the bigger conventions. Do you consider that work, or is it more of a day out? Any conventions in particular that you prefer going to? Indeed, we do have a busy convention schedule ahead of us. We will spend a great deal of time traveling around the United States on the convention circuit in this upcoming year. The conventions are a lot of fun! I love getting the chance to meet all the convention-goers, and helping to generate interest in Dark Angels projects. There is always so much to do and see, and the shopping is incredible! Even so, it is definitely work! Business is business, and we don't forget that bringing Dark Angels to the forefront is our reason for being there. The two conventions I am really excited about are OmegaCon and DragonCon. This August will be my first time attending DragonCon in Atlanta,GA and I can't wait! It is one of the largest cons in the US, and it is sure to be a wild one. Also, my friends from Heaven and Hell Records will also be there promoting metal music and culture, so it's going to be a really good time! In March of 2008, OmegaCon will makes its first appearance on the scene in Birmingham, Alabama. Dark Angels is heavily involved with this convention, and will be special guests there. It is expected to be even larger than DragonCon in a couple of years! With the amazing artists already scheduled to be in attendance, we are all looking forward to sharing in it's inevitable success.
So where has all this Dungeons & Dragons-style posing with a sword type stuff come from? A personal interest, or something you were asked to do? My interests have always been somewhat on the "darker" side. In fact, I guess you could say I'm the darkest of the Dark Angel models in more ways than one! When I began working with Dark Angels, I already considered myself to be an alternative model. My look and personality lend themselves to that type of image. I don't exactly look like the typical "girl next door", and I don't want to. As for posing with weapons, it's just fun! I've always had a fondness for stage combat, and I adore projecting images of strong women, so the whole sword bearing fantasy warrior woman thing is right up my alley.
Do you do any mainstream modeling nowadays, or is it mainly the goth / fantasy (Voltcase friendly!) side of things that you focus on? I certainly don't turn down mainstream offers, but I seem better suited for the fantasy/goth/metal side of modeling, so I focus on my strengths.
Ever had an trouble at conventions / on the Internet etc from any over enthusiastic fans? I really haven't had too many problems so far. Sometimes people are a bit too presumptuous in their e-mails, or they are more forward than they should be, and that isn't a very comfortable feeling. It's great to get e-mail, but perverse messages are NOT welcome! Furthermore, I love that people are happy to see me out at conventions, and I enjoy hanging out with everyone, but it's only fun when it doesn't get out of hand. There's nothing worse than posing for a picture with someone, and feeling a hand go somewhere it shouldn't! It's always important to be respectful of everyone's personal space, and I'm very grateful to those who respect mine. Hopefully, there won't ever be any real trouble. I don't imagine too many people want to take their chances on messing with a model of the evil looking, spike wearing, axe-wielding variety.
Do you have any spare time to listen to music? Anyone bands / artists in particular? I don't have too much spare time, but I can always make time for my favorite bands! Although, at times, you can catch me listening to show tunes, classical(especially Mozart) , or 80's hair metal, I'll never be found too far from my Pantera, Metallica, or Slayer. Of course, my band of choice these days is Wehrwolfe. Not only is their music absolutely brutal, but I'm marrying their frontman/bassist, Devon, this October!
Why should the lazy general public make the effort to check you out? You should check me out because I'm what happened to that little fantasy/sci-fi/horror loving geeky girl that lived next door to you when you were a kid. She's all grown up, and still slaying dragons!
And finally..... what does the word 'Voltcase' mean to you? "Voltcase" sounds like something Tesla might have invented. I keep picturing a large glass case with lightning flashing on the inside. To me, "Voltcase" means dangerously high levels of electricity encased in a gorgeous shell! |
