VOLTCASE KATY KAMIKAZE INTERVIEW:
Welcome to Voltcase, Katy, how are things?
Things are going well thanks! I'm very busy at the moment and working hard.
So, how would you describe yourself to a stranger in three words?
Determined, fun and honest
Your core modelling genres seem are the pin-up and retro scenes, is that by choice or accident? And are you influenced by the 50's / rockabilly type scenes outside of modelling, like in films and music, as well?
My preferred genres are those by choice, i love the 50's and rockabilly scene, I prefer to listen to genuine 50's music to modern rockabilly but i do appreciate that as well.
So, you were featured as March's 'Photography Monthly' cover girl, which is almost as prestigious as being March's Voltgirl of the month! How did that come about, and have you got any more covers in the works?
That was a HUGE shock for me!! One of the photographers i've worked with (and great friend of mine) Philip Hunton, sent a few pictures to the mag to see if they were interested in them, they asked him to write a feature on burlesque photography and hinted they were interested in using one of his images for the cover. Me and two of my model friends Frankii Wilde and Zara Anne were asked by Phil to appear in his feature and we had no idea who would be picked for the cover until a few days before it came out.. like i say, i totally didn't expect it to be me! I haven't got any more covers planned but i'll welcome them if any mags are interested! He he
You worked with a load of cool photographers, any in particular that you fancy name-dropping? Any that you think we should check out here at Voltcase?
Well all the photographers i have worked with are great! I have formed many friendships along the way with many of them. Wicked Heart photography capture the fun and girly side of me in their fantastic location shoots, Chris from Drive-By Shooting photography captures a grittier, vampy image and Philip Hunton's shots always ooze glamour. All very different styles and all worth checking out!
You re based in the North East, what's it like up there at the moment? Plenty of opportunities, or would you be better off in the South, or even abroad?
Well, i'm originally from West Yorkshire and i moved to Hartlepool. It was a shock for me to move from quite a busy exciting place to a small town, and there aren't many people like me around! I think the friendships i have made up here and the people i have worked with would be hard to find anywhere else though, i have had so many fantastic experiences so far i would like to see what else comes my way by staying up here for a while, eventually though i would like to move back home and see what happens there too!
Any rock-star style stories that you can tell us about? Ever thrown a TV out of a hotel window, for example?
Ha ha no i've never done that, i did used to be the lead singer of a poppy punk band, which was great fun. We went on a tour and played the Cavern Club.. Lots of rock star experiences there! My fiance is in a band too, the Nagasaki Simbriots, i used to perform a burlesque routine on stage with them.. that rocked!
If you were interviewing yourself, what question would you ask yourself? And what would the answer be?
Hmm, i would probably ask myself... What do you want out of life? and my answer would be To make a living off what I love to do which is modelling and to marry my fiance and one day start a family. I would also love to travel and model for photographers in the US. Oooo also i would love to have lots of pretty clothes and jewelry ha ha.
So, what have you got planned for the rest of the year?
Well, i have a degree to finish, (I hardly ever mention that!) which means i will walk off with a BA (hons) in Entertainment Design Crafts (costume design and construction). Once that's finished and i have done my degree show i think i will work on a 2009 calendar, a first collection for my rock n roll clothing company Diner Doll Clothing, and some other secret projects!
And finally, the question that we ask everyone that appears in Voltcase - what does the word 'Voltcase' mean?
Ha ha that's a good one! erm... I would say it just means ROCK'N'ROLL BABY YEEAAH!! Ha ha, phew.. Got outta that one! Ha ha |
